THE FOUNDATION

Airman Heritage Foundation BACKGROUND

The enlisted Airman is the backbone of the US Air Force.  Since the early beginnings of the aviation service in the 1900s, and even more dramatically so in current global environments, enlisted airmen have been pivotal in the defense of our nation.  Today's Air Force mission to "Fly, Fight, and Win" would not be possible without the skillful, valiant, and unselfish contributions and sacrifices of our enlisted American airmen.  They have served our nation with dignity, courage and distinction.   Many of them have paid the ultimate sacrifice to secure our freedom and democratic way of life.   Yet, there is no adequate place today for our nation to pay tribute to the proud heritage, tradition of honor, and legacy of valor of our enlisted men and women.  It is most fitting then, that Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland, known as the "Gateway to the Air Force," and where annually over 35,000 common citizens are transformed into an American Airman, receives the distinction of hosting the USAF Airman Heritage Museum, a national treasure.

WHO ARE WE?

The Airman Heritage Foundation is a private, 501c3 non-profit organization, made of volunteers entrusted with the awesome responsibility of raising approximately $50 million in private funds to design, build, and equip a modern USAF Airman Heritage Museum at Joint Base San Antonio - Lackand.

The mission of the Airman Heritage Foundation is to support the USAF Airman Heritage Museum in preserving and honoring the history and heritage of enlisted airmen and to educate future airmen and the public on airmen sacrifices to safeguard America.

The Vision of the Airman Heritage Foundation is to build a new USAF Airman Heritage Museum facility that will preserve and display the proud heritage of enlisted airmen and be a source of education about their rich history.

WHERE WILL IT BE LOCATED AND WHAT WOULD BE ITS SIZE?

JBSA-Lackland officials have approved an 80K SF footprint lot at the north end of the base parade field, for this purpose. The initial plan is for a two story, 50,000 square foot facility enhancing the Enlisted Airman's "historical perspective through exhibits and inteactive technology".

HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE GENERATED?

Fundraising efforts will be aimed at: online donations through our website, grants' solicitations, contributions from philanthropic entities and individuals, the Combined Federal Campaign, well-established organizations and corporations supportive of our military and national defense, as well as through Foundation membership, and our Legacy Paver Program.

WHAT'S THE LEGACY PAVER PROGRAM?

As part of Lackland's General Plan's Corridors of Excellence, engraved paver bricks will be installed in prominent areas along the parade field, the Air Park and adjacent areas. Pavers can be purchased online through our website or by mail at a reasonable cost of $55 each or $50, if more than one is ordered. Each paver has three lines of text where family and friends can honor past, current, and future Airmen with personalized messages. Purchase your own customized paver now.
